TAS Support and Intervention Program

The Tasmanian (TAS) Government’s Support and Intervention Program supports individuals who may be vulnerable to violent extremism.

How the program works

The programs and services are not deradicalisation programs and do not directly attempt to alter the beliefs of an individual. They provide a range of tailored support services that address their vulnerabilities and help to build positive connections.

The Support and Intervention Program is a voluntary and confidential program that works through personalised support plans.

A team of experienced case managers and mental health professionals collaborates with other government and community services to help individuals build resilience, identity, and a sense of belonging.

Support may include:

  • Access to education, employment, and mental health services
  • Connection with positive social and community networks
  • Coordination with other agencies to meet individual needs.

Anyone can be referred, regardless of age. Referrals are assessed based on concerns such as:

  • Expressions of extremist views
  • Interest in violence or mass harm
  • Fixation on public figures
  • Intense grievances or threats of harm.

All personal information is protected under the Personal Information Protection Act 2004. Case managers and service providers follow strict confidentiality protocols.

Participation is always voluntary, and individuals can choose to disengage at any time.
