ACT Support and Intervention Program

The ACT Support and Intervention Program (ACT-SIP) engages with people in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) who might be at risk of supporting violence for social, political, or ideological reasons.

ACT-SIP does not try to change people's beliefs or thoughts. Instead, it helps them find safer and more positive paths in life, so they do not cause harm to themselves or others.

How the program works

The ACT-SIP is run by the ACT Government Justice and Community Safety Directorate, with referrals to the program assessed by ACT Policing.

ACT-SIP creates individual plans to support each person, working with groups like schools, health services, police, youth justice and family and friends if needed. We offer support and guidance to help them leave dangerous beliefs behind and find positive ways to be part of the community.

Anyone over 10 years or older can be considered suitable for the program. Personal details are kept private, and strict confidentiality rules are followed. Joining the program is voluntary, and participants can choose to stop at any time.

The ACT-SIP is run by experienced case workers. Police are only involved in the assessment of someone’s suitability.
